Renaissance of Waikiki

Another chapter in Waikiki’s storied history has been written.  Waikiki has undergone a dramatic renaissance, a transformation brimming with beauty, charm, and a renewed Hawaiian sense-of-place, now making it the most sought after cosmopolitan beachfront cityscape. Traditionally, Waikiki was a place of healing and today, it is the foremost urban island-resort destination in the world boasting a sophisticated palette of dining, retail, entertainment and recreational activities, truly a gathering place where the world emerges to celebrate and savor life. Bounded by Diamond Head and open reaches of Kapi‘olani Park to one side, and the Hawai‘i Convention Center and Ala Moana Beach Park on the other, this mile of paradise is the crown jewel of Hawai‘i’s fabled resorts. With roughly four billion dollars already invested or allocated toward future projects in Waikiki, one will experience a tantalizing combination of breath-taking tropical beauty, decades of experience in the hospitality industry, state-of-the-art meetings facilities, a rich and varied nightlife, sophisticated shopping, international cuisine and Hawai‘i’s unique Aloha Spirit, culture and the arts, all of which, soothe and revitalize the soul.

The Waikiki Improvement Association

The Waikiki Improvement Association is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to making Waikiki a great place to invest, work, live and play.  For more than 30 years we have worked with public officials, battled in the courts, lobbied in legislative halls, cleaned the beach and patrolled the streets. Our members represent the major stakeholders in Waikiki--businesses of all types, the visitor industry, property owners and professionals. As the leading advocate for Waikiki, we work in partnership with business and government to identify needs, develop strategies, shape public policy and implement programs to strengthen the physical and economic vitality of Waikiki and its role in the state's economy.
