HALEKULANI LIVING PRESENTS “THE WINES OF PASO ROBLES…DISTINCT and DIFFERENT” AS PART OF ITS CONNOISSEUR SERIES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HONOLULU – July 2006. What is better than a marveled glass of wine…the winemaker behind the blend, of course. On Thursday, August 10, 2006, Halekulani will present an unparralled evening showcasing not only the finest wines of the Paso Robles region, but the award-winning personalities that inspire California’s fastest growing wine region. “The Wines of Paso Robles…Distinct and Different,” a one-night only, Halekulani Living Connoisseur event, invites guests to savor an extraordinary and interactive wine tasting led by Justin & Deborah Baldwin, of Justin Winery & Vineyards; Matt Trevisan of Linne Calodo; and Stephan Asseo of L’Aventure winery. Moderated by Halekulani Sommelier Kevin Toyama, the evening will also encompass an elegant Paso Robles styled reception by Halekulani Executive Chef, Darryl Fujita.
Featuring Justin & Deborah Baldwin of Justin Winery & Vineyards: Considered the “First Family” of the modern Paso Robles wine region, Justine & Deborah Baldwin was the first Paso Robles winery to gain International acclaim, JUSTIN wines have received awards and accolades, including the London International Wine & Spirit Competition’s Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande trophy awarded to the 1994 Isosceles for the Best Blended Red Wine Worldwide and number 6 in the top 100 for the Wine Spectator for their 1997 Isosceles.
Featuring Matt Trevisan of Linne Calodo: Trevisan’s wines have been hitting the Wine Spectators “Outstanding” 90-94 point range as well as the “Classic” 95-100 point range from the beginning. Linne Calodo takes its name from the rocky, limestone soil type of westside Paso Robles, and it’s this soil, Winemaker Matt Trevisan sees as one of the essential building blocks for his wines...
Featuring Stephan Asseo of L’Aventure winery: Where modern and traditional meet, Asseo’s wines are climbing the charts with bold flavors and artisanal quality. A few short years ago, Stephan Asseo was a winemaker and consultant in France’s famed Bordeaux region, and also owned his own winery – Domaine de Courteillac in Entre-Deux-Mers. However, Asseo wanted more. He wanted the ability to be able to experiment, to try new ideas, to grow different varietals. Asseo purchased 127 acres in 1997 and founded Stephan Vineyards, where “Bordeaux meets the Rhône.” Asseo’s California winemaking adventure is appropriately called L’Aventure, and it symbolizes his realization of blending tradition and technology with artisanal methods and a passion for quality.
“The Wines of Paso Robles…Distinct and Different,” is priced at $98 per person. For information please call (808) 931-5040, reservations are required. Complimentary valet provided for all Halekulani Living events.
About the Paso Robles Region The Paso Robles Wine Country is centrally located between San Francisco and Los Angeles along California’s Central Coast. As California’s fastest growing wine region and largest geographic appellation, the 24-square mile territory encompasses more than 26,000 vineyard acres and nearly 100 wineries. One distinguishing factor of the Paso Robles AVA is the abundance of highly desirable limestone and calcareous-rich soils found throughout the region.
WINES OF PASO ROBLES
Paso Robles was named for its local oak trees, El Paso de Robles: The Pass of the Oaks. The name was shortened to Paso Robles when California gained its independence from Mexico in the mid 1800s.Since the early 1990s, Paso Robles wines have proven consistent gold medal winners and have been featured regularly in the top rankings of national and international wine reviews. A milestone in the worldwide recognition of Paso Robles Wine Country as a premier wine region came in 1997 when Justin Vineyards & Winery’s Bordeaux-style Isosceles was named one of the top 10 wines in the world by the Wine Spectator.
